Pie is another thing that I have decided is not bad for you. People can eat as much pie as they want as long as it is not mine. Aunt Margie's pie is the best. She doesn't even ask; she knows I love pie. It doesn't even matter what kind because she knows I love pie, and it is always wonderful. Last night we ate her homemade red raspberry pie with raspberries that were picked off of the bush just before the frost. She woke up early to make me a fresh pie before coming to see me. This tired little woman of the Lord dragged herself out of bed to make my pie because she knew I wanted one.
I have seem people on TV go into diners and order pie. That is something I cannot buy into. What if that was the day Aunt Margie brought me a pie and I couldn't eat it because I had already bought somebody else's pie in a diner? Those in the diner seem to enjoy their pie. They must not have someone to make them pie. They will have to go out there and find their own pie makers. Aunt Margie can't be expected to make pie for everyone!
Grandma Kyes taught me the fine art of making pie, and I have made a lot of pies myself, but eating your own pie is not the same. We never had pie at home; we always ate cobbler, and they were bubbly gooey biscuty and wonderful. I like cobbler too.
So, let's talk about others bringing me the necessary ingredients for pie. Uncle Don would call me from Meijer to see how much rhubarb I needed to make a pie for him and one for me. They told him not to have pie, but I made it anyway because he liked it. Daryl would show up at all hours of the night or day with any type of berries making sure I had enough to make a pie for him and one for Gary and I. Pam makes two pies at Thanksgiving, and if she doesn't need them she always gives one to Gary and I.
I have passed on my pie skills to Connie who has passed them on to Gretchen now. Gretchen makes a mean Apple Pie, crust and all. Uncle Gary likes Apple Pie, but Gretchen seems to want to eat her whole pie herself, and that's okay. Connie thinks she needs some more training in the Giving of the pie or she needs to teach her to make two not just one so there is always one to give and one to eat. I don't think I have ever made just one pie. That just doesn't make sense to me if you are making the mess you may as well have two pies. People think that pie is not good for them. Doctors are telling them that; and I am not listening anymore.
